Frequently Asked Questions

What is the MMPI exam?

The MMPI, or Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, is a standardized psychological test used to assess personality traits and behavior.

I'm registered, what do I do next?

After registration, you must purchase a test. This can be done from the Purchase History page, or you can click the link below. (Only logged-in users will see the button).

Is this the real MMPI-2 RF exam?

Yes. The exam materials were provided by a participating psychologist and were coded into this online platform. All 338 questions were transcribed and verified to be accurate.

Coding was the easy part. Once finished, your results are determined by a licensed psychologist. The "grading" process is NOT automatic. Our test results are determined by a licensed psychologist, not an algorithm.

What's the difference between your test and the sites where I can take the MMPI test online free?

Free online MMPI tests are different in that they aren't evaluated by a psychologist, and you cannot use the result for anything official. Our test is evaluated by a licensed psychologist who issues a legal form that is accepted by Texas DPS for use in private security licensing.

The sites that offer free MMPI cannot give you anything but a novelty evaluation.

Why do I need to take the MMPI exam?

In Texas, the MMPI exam is required for Level 3 Commissioned Security Officer (CSO) and Level 4 Personal Protection Officer (PPO) licenses.

How long does it take to complete the MMPI test?

The MMPI exam consists of 338 questions, which typically takes around 1-2 hours to complete.

What is required to create an account on your website?

Users need to provide basic contact information, SSN, country of birth, state of residence, and create a username and password. Most of these details have nothing to do with the MMPI exam, but are required for the PSP-13 form.

How do I pay for the MMPI test?

Payment can be made online using a credit card or other accepted payment methods.  Access to the MMPI is granted immediately after purchasing the test.

Why didn't I receive the registration/result email?

Email providers have different standards for classifying email as spam. Sometimes our messages get sent to your spam folder, other times they may be rejected outright.

Yahoo, for example, blocks mail randomly. Gmail and Hotmail, on the other hand, send our messages to the spam folder. If you use Yahoo, you may want to use an alternate email for our service. Gmail and Hotmail users can "mark" the messages as "not spam", which will bring them into your inbox.

When can I expect to receive my result/PSP-13 form?

Upon passing your MMPI-2 RF test, the answers are stored on our servers until midnight of the same day. At midnight, the completed list of tests is sent to the psychologists participating in this service where they wait to be evaluated. This is where we are at the mercy of the psychologist's schedule.

Remember, the participating psychologists are running their own in-person practices, with their own appointment schedule. Participating in our service requires them to commit to a 3-5 day turnaround (not including weekends). If you complete your test on a Friday, that test might wait for evaluation until the following Wednesday to Friday.

Why did I fail?

That's a tough question to answer. The psychologist may include a note with any failed MMPI test result, but that is optional. The reason to leave the failure reason vague is to preserve the integrity of the test.

If, for example, the psychologist explained that "question 130 was a bad choice", it might cause the test-taker to re-take the test with a different answer for that question. The integrity of the test requires keeping certain parts of the evaluation process vague.

Can I take the test at home, on my own schedule?

Yes, our testing platform is designed to be taken from any location with an internet connection.

Will I have access to my results immediately after completing the test?

No, your test will be reviewed by a qualified psychologist and results will be sent via email within 3-5 business days.

How can I expect to receive my PSP-13 certificate?

If you pass the test, your PSP-13 certificate will be included in the email with your results.  It is also made available on the Purchase History page.

What happens if I fail the test?

You'll receive an email with information on how to retake the MMPI test and what steps to take next.

Do I need any special software or equipment to take the test?

No, our testing platform is compatible with most modern web browsers and devices. You can even take our MMPI test on your phone.

Is my data secure during the testing process?

Yes, we use industry-standard security measures to protect user data.

How can I study for this test?

While studying for an exam sounds like a good idea - it isn't for the MMPI.

The MMPI isn't a test where there are right or wrong answers. For example, one question is (paraphrased): I would like to be a singer. There isn't a correct answer to that question. When evaluated together, the 338 questions provide a psychological profile that is determined by the psychologist evaluating your answers.

Just be yourself and answer the questions honestly.

Is it possible to take the MMPI-2 test online?

If you ask the Internet - you'll get answers across the spectrum. Yes, no, it's unethical, maybe... The problem with this question is the interpretation of the test. Most of us are familiar with online tests where completion of the test immediately delivers a score. The MMPI isn't like that.

There are a ton of websites that offer: "Take MMPI Test Online Free", but what they're really offering is a novelty test - it doesn't count for anything (that's why it's free). You might be entertained by the result, but that result isn't accepted as proof that you took the test as it was graded by algorithm and not a licensed psychologist.

You CAN take the MMPI online, but you will not be able to get an immediate score. The online portion of the test is just the survey. Interpretation STILL must be done by a licensed psychologist. Our service bridges that gap with participating psychologists. The website administers the test, the psychologist evaluates the answers.

Why do you need my Social Security Number?

Honestly, we didn't want to collect this - but the PSP-13 form requires the SSN of the applicant. We assume the state uses it to verify that the MMPI is for the same person as the Level 3 or Level 4 application that it was submitted for.

When you pass (or if you fail) and if you want us delete your SSN from our database, we will be happy to do it. Use the Support link to send us a message.

Which security licenses require the MMPI?

After a level 3 officer committed a mass shooting in Allen Texas, the Texas legislature passed HB3424 which requires level 3 security officers to obtain an MMPI (submitting the PSP-13 form).

At this time, Commissioned Security and Personal Protection Officers (level 3 and level 4) must obtain an MMPI. Current level 3 officers must obtain an MMPI before their next renewal.
